Lake Laogi is the largest lake in all of Eldmuri. Its waters are crystal clear, and even at the center of the lake, you can see straight to the bottom. It has a soft, sandy shore all the way around it. It also has a gentle current and nice pleasant temperature.
While it may be tempting to go swimming in the lake, the locals strongly advise all persons to stay away from it. Merfolk have long been allowed to live in the lake. Through their magic, they make the lake look tempting to those passing by. However, if any amount of flesh touches the lake, its waters turn blood red, boiling hot, and froth with high waves. Merfolk then rise to the surface and try to tempt the unlucky person farther into their waters. No one is really sure what happens if the merfolk are successful. Maybe you're devoured, or drown, or turn into one of them yourself. All options are seen by most to be undesirable though, so unless you really want to live in a lake the rest of your life, don't touch the water.
It is possible to get across the lake in a boat or other means of water transportation. You can also scoop the water up into a cup or vial. The water is magical and will cure any curse or poison. As long as you don't touch the water in the lake, you'll be fine. If so much as a single droplet finds its way to your flesh, run; run as fast as you possibly can.
