The Demonic Pit is where all evil aligned souls come when they die. There are actually three sides of the pit: one for lawful evil, one for chaotic evil, and one for neutral evil. Depending on which side you're sent to, you'll either have an easy punishment or a hard punishment. This is where evil souls rest. Why would the gods let you off the hook for bringing pain and misfortune to the world?
The lawful evil side of the pit has the easiest punishments. While they may have gone through their life only trying to better themselves, they still followed the laws and rules of a land. These souls were usually not so evil as to murder hordes of innocents just because it looked fun. Mostly their punishment is to endure chaos as this side of the pit is filled with random, chaotic fun times. Although a chaotic good soul might be happy here, the lawful evil soul considers it a punishment because it is everything they stand against. Their only comfort is the knowledge that by enduring their punishment, they are fulfilling and honoring their end of a contract.
Much like the lawful evil side of the pit, the chaotic evil side is punished by being forced to endure the lifestyle of a lawful good soul. They are given set tasks, most of which are very boring, and expected to fulfill them. If they do not fulfill their task, they are punished in ways you cannot imagine. Most of the souls here do not do their assigned tasks or pick and choose which ones they do. This is their little way of attempting to remain true to their chaotic personality.
The neutral side of the pit lies between the lawful side and the chaotic side. While these souls are punished, it's often very hard to tell if they feel reprimanded for their evil deeds. They simply don't seem all that bothered by either punishment on either side. As a result, they are often sent from one side to the next in an attempt to find a punishment that might strike them where their heart used to be.
The top of the pit is surrounded by a ledge. The ledge is where an evil soul will first arrive at the pit. Here is where it will be decided which side you belong to or if you even belong in the Demonic Pit at all. The ledge also has small lava pools through which the living world can be looked upon. Only souls on the ledge can be resurrected or regenerated after death.
The Demonic Pit is mostly what it sounds like, a huge pit. The floor of the pit seems to be hardened lava. A theory that's supported by frequent lava pools and bursts of fire. There is very little comfort here. Evil souls are forced to make their way down the pit the best way they can, dodging boulders, fire bursts, and lava pools as they go. You'll notice that the punishments get worse the deeper into the pit you travel. There are buildings here, but they're not pretty nor are they easy to access.
