Brightvale is the largest Human in Adhumlia. Centuries ago, Brightvale didn’t exist, it was instead two separate cities that over the course of time have merged into one massive city. If one were to travel Brightvale as the crow flies, it would take the venturer more than a day to traverse it’s width. Of course, the common person does not fly, and so with the constant zigging and zagging of the streets and layout of the city, it takes much longer to negotiate.
The seat of Human existence, Brightvale is also the most fortified and heavily garrisoned; the center of the city being more akin to a massive fortress. The city itself is surrounded by fortified walls and permeated with equally sturdy walls throughout its interior. Row upon row of wall and gate and barrack. It is boasted that the only way to take Brightvale is from within- a boast, which has been proven on several occasions as the conniving and plotting of the nobles have seen internal power change hands.
There are several rings separated by walls that divide the various segments of the city. The outer rings are predominantly trade and residences for the farm managers that see to the provision for Brightvale. The 4th ring is where typical city life is found- taverns, residences, markets, academy’s and stations of learning.
The 3rd ring is commonly referred to as the “Old City”; traditionally, it is where the two cities first merged. It is also the most run down and neglected part of the city. Home of disreputes, swindlers and gambling dens, fortune tellers and anyone willing to pick your pockets for its lint.
Within the 3rd ring, providing some passage between the 2nd and 4th rings, there is the Sanctuary ring. Here is the tabernacle of the human gods. A towering temple made from a curious stone mined by the Dwarves for the Humans during the time of forgotten peace; it is a white stone with a similar appearance to marble, yet in the moonlight, it glows with a soft blue hue. This stone was favoured for religious buildings as it was said that the glory of the gods filled the building. The tabernacle houses all temples of worship for the human gods. Each night, in the great hall, a priest from a different temple speaks of their deity’s teachings.
Deep within the tabernacle, heavily guarded by Paladins and Clerics, lays the magical items granted to the Humans by the gods.
The 2nd ring is the military ring, the main garrison of Brightvale and the Human soldiering academy.
The inner ring is the castle of the High King. A towering, spired castle which spires conspire the pierce the sky itself. Within the court of the High King, matters of state are set in order by the high King and council. It is to the High King that all Human kings answer to.
