The Bozark Mountains lie to the east of the Brighton Plains. While these mountains are nowhere near as high as the Ragerrook, they are still pretty impressive. Most of the mountain terrain is covered in a rhick forest. In some parts, the trees grow so thickly together that it can be difficult to see even ten feet straight ahead. As you can probably imagine, the thickness of the forest can make traveling through it a real nightmare. Many of the paths are overgrown and hard to walk. Really, there's only one safe main road. It's paved with local rocks, smoothed from many footsteps, and very well tended to by druids and such.
It is generally unwise to wander off of the path unless you know exactly where you're going. There are many dangers in the Bozark Mountains, such as wild animals. However there are also other dangers that an unwary traveler might walk straight into. While most of the mountain range is populated by halflings, there are a few other races who call the Bozarks home. Most of these races are well hidden in the depth of the forest. They are usually not keen to suddenly being stumbled upon by a stranger though and will almost always react violently. Besides the little pockets of other races, there are also many carvasses and gullys in the Bozark Mountains. Some of these can seem to crop up out of nowhere and send you tumbling over a cliff. The most famous carvasse is The Widow Maker, which is so deep and steep that you are very likely to die if you fall into it.
Despite the wild animals, dangerous and hostile races, and the deadly cliffs, the Bozark Mountains are really very peaceful and lovely. As long as you stay on the path, the risk of encountering anything dangerous is really pretty low. You can just stroll along at a nice leisurely pace if you want and admire the many beautiful views. There are even little campsites near the path so you don't have to wander away too far at night.
